Puppy FAQ:

Are the parents of the puppies health tested?

Yes, all of our moms and dads are tested at 2 years of age.  We do our best at providing our students with the most healthy and balanced puppy mentally and physically.  This does not guarantee your puppy will be perfect, but will have the best chance being a successful Service Dog.

Do the puppies come with a health warranty?

Yes, the puppies go home with a 2 year health warranty provided they are taken to the vet within 72 hours of being picked up.  This warranty covers all life threatening genetic diseases and disorders.  While we have each parent tested and cleared genetically specific to disorders that effect Standard Poodles, there are many more diseases they are still doing research on.

What is the cost for a puppy from your program?

There is no cost for the puppy itself.  While we do require a deposit to reserve your spot in line (non-refundable), any costs you are required to pay through the COSD program go directly towards the training you receive during class.

What happens if the puppy that I receive doesn't graduate?

If you run into problems training your puppy we are here to help!  Our first step when any student is struggling is to try and problem solve.  If the student has not missed 75% of classes and outings then a short term Board and Train may be the solution.  If our trainer does not feel that the puppy can get past the issues he/she is having, then the board will have a discussion as to the course of action to take to solve the issue.  In most cases the puppy is taken back and replaced with a more suitable puppy from an upcoming litter, or another dog available through the program.

When does my puppy come home with me?

Puppies are scheduled to go home with our students at 8 weeks of age.  A group pickup will be scheduled by our Puppy Program Coordinator where any questions you may have are addressed.  The food, potty schedule, etc are also went over with the group in detail.  If you are not able to make this group session, you can arrange to have your puppy boarded in advance.

When does training start with my new puppy?

Training starts immediately!  There are many opportunities for your puppy to learn potty training, leash manners and house rules.  In addition to these, each of our students have access to a set of pre recorded video lessons to work on with the puppy until the time where they will start formal in person lessons around 16 weeks of age.

How are your classes for the puppies structured?

Each week we will meet with you either over video, in a private session, or in a group class (depending on which option you have selected upon enrollment) for 45-50 minutes.  Each session we address any areas of the training that did not go as planned and problem solve where we can to resolve the issue.  We go over new exercises for you to practice with your puppy.
